Herbert Power Stakes Betting
The Herbert Power Stakes is a Group 2 race held annually at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne. It is an important part of the Caulfield Carnival as it is used as a lead up to the Caulfield Cup held one week later. It is raced over a distance of 2400 metres and is a quality handicap carrying $200,000 in prize money. The race is held on Caulfield Guineas Day which includes the Group 1 races the Caulfield Guineas, Yalumba Stakes and Toorak Handicap.
The race has a long history dating back to 1898. It was upgraded to Group 2 status in 1982 and has been won by some great horses, the most notable being Rogan Josh, Just A Dancer, Van Der Hum, Gala Supreme and Poseidon. The last 3-year-old C&G to win the race was way back in 1929, while it is interesting to note that no filly has ever won the race.
2009 Herbert Power Stakes Preview
Race 8 on the cards at 4:40pm. We like Shocking ($4.60) here in what is a large field. Shocking ran home well last start at the Valley and was excellent in the G1 Queensland Derby in his only start at 2400m, finishing second. Alcopop ($4.20) is the favourite and deservedly so after winning 4 of his past 5 starts, including the last 3. He was very good at the Valley and continues to keep on improving. This will be a new test over 2400m but he is capable.
Capecover ($6.00) is a quality NZ horse who is hard to ignore. It has been five starts since his last win but he’ll be primed here, with distance suiting. Hissing Sid ($6.00) as an improving horse who is a proven winner at this track and at this distance. Was impressive in winning the Warrnambool Cup back in May and was impressive in the G3 Naturalism Stakes last start.
Of the others, Precedance ($9.00) is a decent shot of a place here after a nice 2nd first up at Flemington. Ran an impressive second at Caulfield last start and the distance will certainly suit. Sand Hawk ($10.00) is coming off two straight wins, the most recent being a very tough win at the Valley. May be there abouts, probably better as a place chance. Young Centaur ($21.00) is flying at the moment and on track to win this spring. Has placed 4 in 6 starts at this distance without winning and is great value to repeat that trend.

2010 Herbert Power Stakes Result
The 2010 Herbert Power Stakes was taken out by the C J Waller trained Danleigh from barrier 13, carrying 59.0kg in weight. Danleigh, a 6yo gelding was ridden by J Bowman and won the race .2 lengths ahead of the second placed Rangirangdoo (NZ), who carried 59.0 from barrier 1. Then followed Palacio De Cristal in third spot 1 lengths behind, carrying 57.0. Danleigh won at odds of 8.00.

2009 Herbert Power Stakes Result
The 2009 Herbert Power Stakes was taken out by the Ms G Waterhouse trained Tuesday Joy (NZ) from barrier 4, carrying 57.0kg in weight. Tuesday Joy (NZ), a 5yo mare was ridden by B Shinn and won the race 1.3 lengths ahead of the second placed Hurried Choice, who carried 57.0 from barrier 9. Then followed Gallant Tess in third spot 1 lengths behind, carrying 57.0. Tuesday Joy (NZ) won at odds of 2.50.
