The Maribyrnong Plate is a Group 3 event held at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne. It is held on Stakes Day on what is the fourth and final day of the Flemington Carnival, the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup. The race itself is a sprint race run over a distance of 1000 metres and is for 2-year-olds at set weights conditions. It carries prize money of $150,000 and is held on the same day as Group 1 events the Emirates Stakes and the Patinack Farm Stakes.
It has been held since 1871 and held Group 3 status since 2005. It was formerly a Group 1 race prior to 1973. Notable winners include Nadeem, Bel Esprit, Testa Rossa, Flavour, Canny Lad, Rancho Ruler and Baguette.
The Maribyrnong Stakes is often used as an important lead up race to several important Group 1 races in the Autumn Carnival such as the Blue Diamond Stakes, Golden Slipper Stakes and Sires Produce Stakes.
