The Rubiton Stakes is a Group 3 race held on CF Orr Stakes Day at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne. It is a set weights and penalties run over a distance of 1100 metres and carrying prize money of $125,000.
It was first run in 1989 and has held Group 3 status since 1982. The 2010 edition of the Rubiton Stakes sees a change in format to previous years. The race has now been moved to early February to CF Orr Stakes Day, rather than in early January when the race used to be held.
Over the years, the Rubiton Stakes has been used as the ideal lead up race to the Group 1 Australia Stakes and Group 1 Lightning Stakes. Interestingly, the last 3yo to win was Miss Pennymoney in 2000, while the last colt or gelding to win was Al Mansour in 1998. Probably a good bet to look at older horses here.
