The Crown Oaks is a Group 1 event held on the Thursday after the Melbourne Cup each year. It is the premier race for 3-year-old fillies at set weights and is the equivalent of the Victoria Derby for colts and geldings. It is raced over 2500m and carries prize money of $1 million. It is the feature race on Crown Oaks Day, which is traditionally known as Ladies Day, which is now known for the fashions off the field just as much as the action on the track.

It has been held since 1861 and has held Group 1 status since 1979. It has produced many quality fillies over the years, more recently Miss Finalnd, Special Harmony and Magical Miss. Usually fillies that perform well in this race will go on to run in the AJC Oaks in the Melbourne Autumn.

There are many important lead up races to the Crown Oaks with the Wakeful Stakes producing 32 winners overall, the Thousand Guineas 17 winners, and the Edward Manifold Stakes 16 winners. Faint Perfume, Silent Surround and Melito are all horses who have performed well in these three races this campaign and are definitely three horses you should consider to win.
