The Chipping Norton Stakes is a Group 1 thoroughbred race held at Randwick racecourse in New South Wales. The race has been held since 1925 where it began as a 2000m distance race; in 1972 it was changed to a distance of 2100m and then again in 1979 to a distance of 1600m which it has remained ever since.

Prize money carried for this race is $300,000 and its one of Randwick's big races of the year. The race itself is open to 3 year olds and up at Weight for Age and is held every year in either February or March. The winner of this race is exempt from ballot for the Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup.

The long list of great thoroughbreds to win this race reads out like an honour role with names including Lonhro, Octagonal, Super Impose, Apolo Eleven, Emancipation and the great Phar Lap back in 1930. Tie The Knot has the best record at this race of all the horses winning the race an amazing 4 years running between 1999-2002.

When analysing the Chipping Norton Stakes, taking a look at the Apollo Stakes at Randwick a fortnight earlier has generally been a good guide. The Apollo Stakes has produced 9 place getters in the Chipping Norton Stakes since 1994, including three winners.
