The Futurity Stakes is a Group 1 race held at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne over the distance of 1,600m and is Weight for Age. The Futurity Stakes has been raced since 1898 and has a long list of champions who have won this race including Phar Lap, Sky High, Ajax, Fields of Omagh and Rubiton.
In 2006 the Futurity Stakes was included in the rich Asian Mile Challenge, a 4 leg event with prize money worth a staggering AUD$15 million in total. The Challenge kicks off in Australia with this race, then its on to Dubai for the Dubai Duty Free Stakes, then to Hong Kong for the Champions Mile and finally finishing in Japan for the Yasuda Kinen.
Each race is held over 1,600m and it is now the worlds richest horse racing series.
