Oakleigh Plate Betting
The Oakleigh Plate is a Group 1 thoroughbred race held at Caulfield racecourse in February each year. It is an open handicap race held over a distance of 1,100m with prize money worth $350,000 on offer. Recent winners of this race include Undue, Fastnet Rock, Snitzel and Miss Kournikova and of course the superstar Weekend Hussler.
The race itself is regarded as the premier handicap sprint race of the Caulfield Autumn racing carnival and you'll often find the best sprinters in Victoria starting in this race. There have been plenty of horses winning at decent odds in the last half decade or so due to big fields, so analysing the race can be tough. One thing to keep an eye on are performances in important lead up races to the Oakleigh Plate. The Australia Stakes, Lightning Stakes and Rubiton Stakes have all produced Oakleigh Plate winners in the past decade and form in these races mustn't be ignored.
The race was first run in 1884 and has a rich list of history. Notable winners of the Oakleigh Plate include Weekend Hussler (2008), Fastnet Rock (2005), Spartacus (1997), Snippets (1988) and Time And Tide (1965). Miss Kournikova, with a time of 1:02.00, has the fastest winning time.

2010 Oakleigh Plate Result
The 2010 Oakleigh Plate was taken out by the L J Corstens trained Starspangledbanner from barrier 6, carrying 52.0kg in weight. Starspangledbanner, a 3yo colt was ridden by D Nikolic and won the race .1 lengths ahead of the second placed Arinos, who carried 52.5 from barrier 7. Then followed Here De Angels in third spot .1 lengths behind, carrying 54.0. Starspangledbanner won at odds of 7.00.
