The Ranvet Stakes is a Group 1 thoroughbred race held annually at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney each March. The race has been held since 1902 but has changed formats during the years, most notably the title as it was known as the Rawson Stakes up until 1987, then changed to the Segenhoe Stakes for 3 years until 1991, and has since been known as the Ranvet Stakes. Also, the distance of the race has also changed during the years with the race being run over 1500m and 1750m over time, but is now set at 2000m.
The Ranvet Stakes is for thoroughbreds aged 3 years old and up at Weight for Age with prize money of $400,000 carrying over. A long list of great horses have won this race including Tie The Knot, Grand Armee and Desert War in recent years, and Sky High, Peter Pan and Hyperno during the years.
When analysing the Ranvet Stakes, it pays to keep a close eye on the Chipping Norton Stakes result which is raced a fortnight earlier. The Chipping Norton Stakes is the perfect lead-up race to the Ranvet Stakes, and it's worth noting that 9 of the last 11 winners of the Ranvet Stakes were place getters at the Chipping Norton. This race is also a lead-up race for The BMW which is raced a fortnight later. The winner of this gains automatic qualification for The BMW.
