The 2009 The Galaxy was taken out by the D A Hayes trained Nicconi from barrier 3, carrying 51.0kg in weight. Nicconi, a 3yo colt was ridden by Craig Williams and won the race 1.3 lengths ahead of the second placed Danleigh, who carried 55.0 from barrier 7. Then followed Gold Trail in third spot .3 lengths behind, carrying 51.0. Nicconi won at odds of 6.00.
