Bright Diamond to make Victorian debut

Posted by RS NewsWire at 3:44pm on June 15th

Talented mare Bright Diamond will finally make her Victorian debut in Saturday’s Country Achiever Wayne Nichols (1100m) at Flemington.

The six-year-old most recently raced at Belmont last July and will be having her first run for Pakenham trainer John Leek Jnr on Saturday.

Bright Diamond built up a credible record of five wins and six placings from 16 starts in WA and was placed in the 2021 Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) at Ascot.

Owner Bob Peters said he was looking forward to finding out where the mare fit in on the east coast.

“It’s a very good race and some good horses in it,” Peters told The Races WA.

“I’m expecting she will show us where she is at on Saturday.

“She will probably need the run and it will be hard to win in that company first-up.”

The daughter of I Am Invincible is a $14 chance with TABtouch for the $150,000 event, with the Peter Moody-trained Sigh the $2.45 favourite.

Bright Diamond has overcome some setbacks to get back to racing and Peters said he hoped she could get some blacktype success before she was retired.

“She hasn’t had a lot of runs, so I’m not too worried about her age but more so the number of runs she’s had,” he said.

“She will probably have this campaign before I send her to a stallion.

“There’s been a few little things that’s made us stop with her a long the way, so it’s taken a while to get here.”

Meanwhile, Peters said he’d start last Saturday’s Sandown winner Frigid at Caulfield next weekend.
