Eeyore Wayz backs up in the TABTouch Stakes

Posted by RS NewsWire at 1:21pm on September 21st

There were a couple of upward spikes with thirds in the Ngawyni Stakes (1000m) and Blue Spec Stakes (1600m), but aside from those two runs it’s been a barren campaign.

Raquel Reid usually goes on the theory you can forgive a horse one bad run, but after two poor efforts, she’s been left scratching her head and lamenting what’s going on.

She can offer no clues as to why the seven-year-old has performed below expectations because his work at home behind the scenes belies his poor track form.

Eeyore Wayz backs up after he ran 8th of 10 to Magnificent Andy a week ago, before that he finished ahead of only Blazing Away in the Listed Farnley Stakes (1400m).

Reid says it could be the last roll of the dice for Eeyore Wayz on the weekend, another poor effort and he could be on the move from her stable.

Reid can’t seem to take a trick with Eeyore Wayz, a winner of seven races, but what she is certain of is on any given day he has the ability to turn it all around.

She’s hoping the racing gods can shine on Eeyore Wayz in Saturday’s $100,000 TABTouch Stakes (1600m).

“The horse is fine and I can’t fault him,” Reid said to the Races WA.

“The frustrating thing is I think he is going better than his last preparation.

“On his work at home you cannot fault him, the horse is fine.

“He’s been looked over from head to toe by the vets and he is sound as a bell.

“The only thing might be he doesn’t like racing on the fence.

“He’s been on the fence at his past two runs and is not a fence horse.

“I can’t do anymore with him, but on his work I have to have confidence he can finish top three.”

Reid has turned to Pat Carbery to accompany Eeyore Wayz in the Tab touch Stakes.

The son of My Admiration has drawn barrier 7 and is currently rated a $17 chance with Tab touch.

Reid said Eeyore Wayz will race without blinkers on Saturday.
