Star filly overcomes minor setback

Bold Bastille, a prominent contender for the Blue Diamond Stakes, has successfully overcome a minor setback, ensuring her continued pursuit of victory in Victoria’s most lucrative two-year-old race, according to co-trainer Ben Hayes.

Hayes reassured fans, stating that Bold Bastille has fully recovered and remains on course for the prestigious Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes scheduled at Caulfield on February 24. Addressing the recent obstacle, Hayes emphasized the priority placed on the horse’s well-being, noting, “She got a little sickness, so we had to back off, and the horse always comes first.”

Unfortunately, Bold Bastille will be absent from this Friday’s Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for two-year-old fillies at Caulfield. However, Hayes expressed optimism, confirming, “She’s back on track though. She’s so bright and happy at the moment, and we will give her one run before the Blue Diamond Stakes in the Prelude.”

Bold Bastille currently stands as the $8 second favorite with Sportsbet for the Blue Diamond Stakes, with Stay Focused sharing the position. The top favourite with betting apps is at $4.50 is Storm Boy, although Gai Waterhouse has indicated the likelihood of his non-participation in the race.

The daughter of Brazen Beau and the esteemed mare Chloe In Paris showcased her potential by securing a victory in her debut, the $500,000 Inglis Banner, with a remarkable three-length lead on Cox Plate day at The Valley.

In addition to Bold Bastille’s endeavors, Hayes shared plans for the promising three-year-old gelding Carbonados. Following his impressive debut win for the stable at Geelong on January 6, the Lindsay Park stable aims to provide Carbonados with an opportunity in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes. Carbonados was acquired by Lindsay Park after a successful debut in New Zealand at New Plymouth last May.
