Filly on Ride towards The Showdown at Caulfield

Posted by RS NewsWire at 8:37am on April 24th

Providing the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr -trained Cosmic Ride has a good remainder of the week, the filly is set to run at Caulfield.

Cosmic Ride holds a nomination in both the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville and the $1 million The Showdown (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

After making her debut in the Listed Without Fear Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on April 13, finishing second, Price said the filly would not travel to Adelaide again this weekend and is more than likely to start in The Showdown.

The task for Price and Kent Jnr is to hold enough condition on the filly for her to take her place at Caulfield on Saturday.

“She went to Adelaide for her debut and she was Stakes placed,” Price said.

“In my opinion, she is light, and I am holding her condition, but there’s no improvement in her, so it is an ambitious play to think that she can go into that $1 million race and win.

“But if she has a good week, she will take her place and it is worth $1 million, and it is restricted to those two-year-olds, so it’s worth a go.”

The Showdown is a race exclusively for the progeny of VOBIS Sires’ nominated stallions.

Cosmic Ride is a daughter of Cox Plate and Australian Guineas winner Shamus Award that was a $170,000 yearling purchase at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Price said Cosmic Ride would go to the paddock after Saturday’s contest to prepare for the spring three-year-old fillies’ races.

“She’s got the Black Type placing which is always important with these fillies and she’s a sound and happy horse,” Price said.

She’ll go to the paddock after this as she’s a slight thing, but she’s fast and she’ll have a nice spring three-year-old year.”

Cosmic Ride is one of 25 two-year-olds entered for Saturday’s race which has Bold Bastille as the headline galloper.

Bold Bastille won the VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m) at Bendigo on April 13 at her most recent assignment.
