Horses of promise dominate Queensland Derby Day at Eagle Farm

The main race of the 3yos over the carnival is the G1 Queensland Derby (2400m) where Kovalica ($1.80) is short odds to back up his excellent run in the Doomben Cup and win the major.
Around him there are some other young stayers with promise like stable mate Special Swey ($6), Promises Kept ($8) off his second in the SA Derby and Aberfeldie Boy ($11) who was running on behind him.
Another of the important main races in the Winter is the G1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) and we see Think About It ($3.50) take the huge step into the big league now.
He could face others desperate for entry into the Stradbroke such as Antino ($15) along with some who are used to playing in the G1 sphere like Eduardo ($11), Paulele ($11) and Rothfire ($8).
Juveniles get a crack at the big money in the G2 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) heading toward the G1 JJ Atkins.
Chrysaor ($6) was impressive last outing and now takes on Snapback ($8) who he beat at Gosford and Cifrado ($11) off his good sprint win last time.
The G3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) offers the 3yos a direct entry into the Stradbroke. Yellow Brick ($2.80) never runs poorly and could take on the likes of Zou Tiger ($8) coming through all the Sydney feature 3yo races and Hawaii Five Oh ($3.50) who looked so good in the Hawkesbury Guineas.
There is also the G3 Premier's Cup (2400m) for the stayers on Brisbane Cup missions, the G3 Lord Mayor's Cup over 1800m and the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) for the fillies and mares.
