Winx’s half-sister City Of Lights set for Geelong debut
City Of Lights, the half-sister to the esteemed four-time Cox Plate champion Winx, is poised to make her debut at Geelong this Sunday.
The filly, born from Winx’s dam Vegas Showgirl and the extraordinary Japanese sire, Deep Impact, was originally scheduled to run at Cranbourne last Friday.
However, trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman decided to delay her debut due to the impact of heavy rain on the track conditions.
City Of Lights was considered for the 1400m 3YO Handicap at Flemington, but the Freedmans opted to hold back, preferring to wait for the ideal race to commence the filly’s highly anticipated career.
While the talented filly is likely to excel in mile races, finding a suitable first race was paramount.
Despite entering the scene late in her three-year-old season and bypassing the lucrative spring and autumn campaigns, the Freedmans trust that a patient approach will prove beneficial for the late bloomer.
Drawing from her sire, Deep Impact, the trainers believe she is set to improve with age and experience.
