Australian Bloodstock buy star International to target Cox Plate 2023
Australian Bloodstock has completed the purchase of one of its highest-rated international horses to date, Irish Guineas runner-up New Energy.
The colt will now join the team of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, with the Cox Plate as the targeted race.
“On exposed form, he is probably the highest-rated horse we have ever got our hands on,” said Jamie Lovett from Australian Bloodstock, indicating the high regard they hold for New Energy.
Having already placed in Group 1 in Ireland, New Energy is viewed as a high-calibre horse, promising a compelling prospect if he can maintain or improve his current form with maturity.
New Energy will be transferred to Harry Eustace at Newmarket, where Maher and David Eustace will get their first glimpse of their new addition while traveling with Coolangatta for Royal Ascot.
Lovett spoke highly of New Energy’s versatility, seeing him as a proven miler with potential for greater distances, particularly on the turf tracks in Australia.
Looking ahead, Lovett revealed that New Energy will be gelded and could potentially race at the Hong Kong International meeting in December, with a view to competing in the Doncaster and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the autumn.
