Cannonball primed for Royal Ascot
After a sturdy course proper gallop at Ascot on Wednesday, Peter Snowden expressed confidence in Cannonball’s readiness for next week’s Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m). The son of Capitalist impressed during his solo workout, the same day rival Aussie horse, Coolangatta, also conducted an Ascot reconnaissance.
Snowden has been monitoring his robust colt closely since his UK arrival, noting his quickly improving condition. He indicated that the three-year-old, who is a multiple stakes winner and ran third in the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m) earlier this year, would conclude his Royal Ascot preparations with an additional workout at Newmarket on Saturday.
“He had a good blow and I needed him to have that because he’s just done so well since he’s been here,” said Snowden, adding that Cannonball hadn’t lost any weight during his journey to the UK.
He lauded the young horse’s travel resilience, attributing it to his robust constitution and toughness. Snowden emphasized the necessity to maintain regular work for the sprinter and expressed optimism about his readiness after Saturday’s training session.
Brett Prebble will be travelling to the UK to ride Cannonball in the anticipated Royal Ascot race on Tuesday.
