Jamie Kah nearing a return to the saddle

Champion jockey Jamie Kah is optimistic about returning to race riding in just a few weeks, following a devastating fall at Flemington in March that resulted in serious brain trauma.

She recently shared her experiences and progress in an exclusive interview with Channel 7’s Hamish McLachlan.

Back riding trackwork on a restricted license this week, Kah expressed her restored confidence and balance, stating she feels exactly like she used to and feels “100 per cent” herself again.

Notably, Kah highlighted that her sense of purpose has returned, and she’s thoroughly enjoying being back on the horses.

The past few weeks have been challenging for Kah as she grappled with the inability to go racing.

Despite feeling normal, being unable to ride horses and go to work has been a considerable struggle.

“Being at home not having a purpose has been driving me insane,” she confessed.

Kah, who’s been riding for about 12 years, is keen to gradually return to normalcy, riding as much as she desires but ensuring she doesn’t overexert herself.

Once she passes one more balance neuro test, she can participate in jumpouts and races, a prospect she’s eagerly awaiting.

As for the Melbourne premiership totals, Kah is keeping an eye on them.

Currently ahead by seven wins, she expressed her desire to return to racing soon to bolster her tally.

“I really want to win the premiership this year,” Kah concluded.
