RV Chairman of Stewards Robert Cram to retire
Racing Victoria Chairman of Stewards Robert Cram has announced he will retire at season’s end.
Cram has worked as an integrity official for 41 years after being appointed as a Cadet Steward in 1982 by the Victoria Racing Club.
He was appointed a Senior Stipendiary Steward in 1996 after stints as Chairman of Stewards in the South Western District, Ballarat District and Northern District regions of Victoria before being appointed Deputy Chairman of Stewards – Non Raceday Integrity & Compliance in 2005.
Cram also served as the director of Victoria’s apprentice training program in 1991-1996.
After being Manager – Integrity Services for two years from 2008, Cram went on to hold the position of Deputy Chairman of Stewards before being elevated to Chairman of Stewards in 2018 when Terry Bailey left to take up a position in Singapore in 2018.
RV Executive General Manager – Integrity Services, Jamie Stier, said Cram’s service to the racing industry was admirable and that he should look back fondly on his achievements over the past 41 years.
“Always approachable, he has been well regarded for his calm unassuming manner,” Stier said.
“To spend your entire professional life within one industry is extremely rare and we thank Robert for his tireless efforts and devotion throughout his career.”
Cram said he was grateful to RV for all the opportunities given to contribute to the racing industry.
“I will leave with many fond memories and having experienced many exciting and challenging times as only racing can generate,” he said.
