Sam Freedman confirms Artorius retired to stud
Multiple Group 1 winner Artorius bids farewell to the racetrack, as trainer Sam Freedman fails to sway the decision for one last run.
Following his fourth-place finish in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, Artorius will now embark on a new journey at Newgate as he enters the world of stud.
Despite Freedman’s hopes to prolong the racehorse’s career, he acknowledged, “I’d say that’s him off to stud. I’ve still got a little bit of time to convince them to keep racing him.”
Artorius leaves a remarkable legacy, having triumphed in two Group 1 races out of his 17 starts, including the prestigious Blue Diamond and Canterbury Stakes.
Describing Artorius’ retirement as the “end of an era,” Freedman Racing took to social media to bid farewell to their beloved equine athlete.
Artorius showcased his talent on both local and international tracks, with notable performances in races such as the Platinum Jubilee and July Cup in 2022.
The racehorse’s accomplishments also extended to the Caulfield Guineas and Coolmore races.
Initially acquired for $120,000 from the Gold Coast Magic Millions in 2020, Artorius has left an indelible mark on the Freedman Racing team and his owners.
With the anticipation of his progeny gracing the stables in the future, the team expressed their well-wishes to Newgate Farm, the new custodians of Artorius, and their future endeavors with the champion racehorse.
