Chorlton Lane eyeing elevated ambitions

Trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have uncovered a fresh gem from overseas in Chorlton Lane, with hopes he maintains his ascent after a polished Rosehill success.
In his first Australian appearance during Saturday's Kia Ora Farnan Handicap (1300m), the UK arrival endured a wide trip and a brief check late before Chorlton Lane ($3.30 Ladbrokes fav) stormed home to defeat Plundering ($3.60) on the line by a neck.
Amor Victorious ($7) ended up third, 1-1/4 lengths behind the runner-up.
The victor covered the last 600m in a quick 32.98s, with stable spokesperson Johann Gerard-Dubord noting it was merely a glimpse of potential.
"Everything he has been doing he has been doing well," Gerard-Dubord said.
"We only work them on the bridle, we don't know how good he could be. He is very progressive, there is plenty more to come and he's got the right attitude which will take him a long way.
"He's lightly raced, he'd only had two starts before today, but he just wants to please in everything he does and that was a good starting point for him."
Chorlton Lane notched one win and a place from his sole prior engagements in England prior to acquisition by Aussie buyers.
His lead-up work occurred in Victoria, where jump outs were promising, prompting the team to venture north for sounder surfaces.
"He came up with a good base, they'd done a great job with him," Gerard-Dubord said.
"He galloped on Tuesday morning and he galloped very well.
"He's a beautiful horse, he's got a lovely action on him and a touch further won't hurt him."
The three-year-old is poised to continue over winter to elevate his benchmark for access to richer fields ahead.
