Ghost Who Walks on track for Ngawyni Stakes

Posted by RS NewsWire at 6:33am on July 28th

Neville Parnham saddles up Ghost Who Walks in the $100,000 Ngawyni Stakes (1000m) and has sung the praises of the gelding.

Since commencing his campaign in April, the son of God Has Spoken has been a consistent performer with four wins and two placings.

His best win and career peak came when he charged home to win his first Listed race in the Beaufine Stakes (1000m).

With Keshaw Dhurun in the saddle, he sprinted powerfully in the straight to defeat race favourite Real Danger and Nerodio.

Last week he finished a competitive fifth to Phanta in the Listed Bolton Sprint (1200m) after covering ground for most of the race.

Ghost Who Walks carries the 59kg topweight in the Ngawyni Stakes and starts from barrier two for Parnham’s jockey son, Chris.

Parnham says there are a lot of good reasons pointing to Ghost Who Walks taking out the Ngawyni Stakes on the weekend.

He boasts an outstanding 1000m record, has been successful on the quick back up and scored multiple wins on rain affected ground.

Parnham says he expects Ghost Who Walks to be hard to beat in the Ngawyni Stakes.

“He’s had a really good week and I’m really happy with the way he pulled up from Saturday,” Parnham told The Races WA.

“He backs up really well, back to a 1000m, has drawn barrier two, carries weight well and certainly meets a softer field.

“He’s had a few runs now, but in the past has always been able to sustain a long preparation and race well right the way through.

“He should make his presence felt I think and I’m quite happy to take him to Saturday for sure.

“The horse has had a great preparation and it was always the plan to back him up in this race.

“Hopefully he’s good enough to get the money again.”

Ghost Who Walks has scored eight of his ten career wins at 1000m and on soft and heavy tracks he’s been successful on five occasions.

He’s currently $3 with Tabtouch and on the second line of betting after opening the $2.75 favourite on Wednesday.

It’sarayday for trainer Simon Miller, whose won four times from five first-up attempts, has firmed into $2.60 favouritism.

Parnham will officially claim his 14th trainers premiership on Saturday, a record extending title and his first since the 2010-11 season.
