What You Need & Globe put through their paces at Sandown

Two of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr’s lightly raced spring hopefuls were put through their paces in an exhibition gallop at Sandown.
What You Need was paired with Ouroboros in a gallop over 800m on Wednesday while Globe was partnered up with The Creator over 1000m.
Price said the stable took advantage of getting the horses away from Cranbourne for the day.
He said the day was particularly important for What You Need and Globe as to where they are placed in their preparations leading into the spring.
“It was good for them to have a day out here,” Price said.
“We have great trials at home at Cranbourne, but the horses don’t leave Cranbourne and I was keen to get their adrenaline going a bit.
“They were out here to gallop two hours earlier, so they were adrenalised for a little while.”
The gallops had been planned to run after race four on Wednesday’s program but were delayed for three races as a result of the horse ambulance being required to move an injured horse.
Price said the extra time had worked in Globe’s favour.
“He is a big, high-energy type of horse. He was a bit frothed up before but with the delay, he cooled down well,” Price said.
“I did say to the boys (jockeys) that you want to shorten these gallops up a little bit because the track is quite firm, which did surprise me a little.
“But for the purpose of what we wanted, superb.”
Price said there would be discussion which path Globe, who is unbeaten, takes during the spring.
He said the path towards the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield, was not easy because of his low rating.
“If you were bold and want to go the weight-for-age path, you run in the Feehan Stakes (at Moonee Valley) first-up and then go to the Underwood Stakes,” Price said.
“They’re the two routes for him.”
He said What You Need, unbeaten in three starts, was in a similar situation with his rating.
But the stable has hopes What You Need will be a contender in The Everest (1200m) at Randwick.
Options for What You Need are to go via the McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley into the Premiere Stakes at Randwick to The Everest, or option two starting with he Bobbie Lewis Sakes at Flemington.
“Either one of those races, but his second run would have to be in the Premiere if we want to go to The Everest,” Price said.
“Both are lightly raced, and they will improve from today.
“Today has been a good day for them.”
