Stephen Wolfe hopes for a last hurrah with Red Can Man
Stephen Wolfe believes a last hurrah for Red Can Man in the next 12-months would be a fitting way to end a stellar racing career.
The son of Gingerbread Man has been a stable pin up for Wolfe for a number of years, winning eight races and pocketing $2.3 million in prizemoney.
Signature wins in Perth came in the Fairetha Stakes (1400m) and the Bolton Sprint (1200m), while in Melbourne he took out the Monash Stakes (1100m).
Wolfe laments an excellent racing resume could have been further advanced with Red Can Man finishing in the placings of group races on 11 occasions.
Wolfe said Red Can Man, who has not raced since the Belmont Sprint (1400m) last May when 11th to Bustler as favourite, has enjoyed a long spell.
“He’s ticking along very well and has had a good spell,” Wolfe told Tabradio.
“He’s up and about and it’s just a matter of pressing the button and he could come back to the races anywhere in the next month.
“He hasn’t won for two years, but has still competed at the highest level and I’m sure he still will.
“He’s run into alot of top liners.
“This will be his last roll of the dice, but will still be amongst the big races for sure.
“If we get the right luck we can win one for sure.
“He’s run into Amelia’s Jewel, This’Ll Testya and Elite Street, who outside of Amelia’s Jewel, has been the best horse here (Perth) for the last couple of years.
“Hopefully he has one good year in him.”
Meanwhile, Wolfe said River Rubicon will next go around in the Black Heart Bart Stakes (1200m) on September 30 after winning the Nicopolis Stakes (1200m) last Saturday.
