Hedged scores an impressive win at Sandown
Hedged, a son of Capitalist, has earned the title of Jamie Kah’s “dream horse” after an impressive performance over 1000 meters in a Benchmark 64 race at Sandown on Sunday.
Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Hedged had previously made a significant impact by winning his maiden race by a staggering five lengths at Seymour back in August. Following that victory, he was swiftly elevated to Group level competition.
However, in the McNeil Stakes, a 1200-meter race, he seemed to struggle and finished fourth among some of the nation’s finest three-year-olds.
For Sunday’s event, Hedged dropped back in both trip and class, a move that proved to be highly beneficial. Under the guidance of jockey Jamie Kah, Hedged, priced at $3 with Ladbrokes, settled near the front runners before surging past his competitors with remarkable ease in the straight.
While the winning margin at the finish line was just over four lengths, it hardly does justice to how effortlessly the gelding outperformed his rivals. Notably, Kah did not need to employ her whip throughout the entire race.
Catahoula, priced at $9, put in a strong effort to secure second place, while the well-favored Serasana, with odds at $3.50 with Dabble, made a commendable return to racing. However, the spotlight unquestionably belonged to the victorious Hedged.
