Amelia’s Jewel showing signs of improvement
Amelia's Jewel is showing signs of improvement after a few lacklustre days following her unexpected unplaced finish in the G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield last Saturday.
Despite not eating as usual, her trainer, Simon Miller, remains optimistic about her potential in the upcoming spring carnival.
"Her bloods are normal so I don’t know what’s going on as she’s still not eating to the capabilities she usually has," Miller told Racing.com.
"She always demolishes everything in the bin and is looking for another feed and she’s just been leaving some overnight.
"But in saying that, she is starting to get a little brighter so we’ll see what the next few days has in store.
Speculation about her participation in the Golden Eagle race is rife, but Miller emphasises the welfare of the mare above all.
"If she was going to the [Golden] Eagle, we’d have an easy week anyway but if we start to lose ground on the Eagle, we can aim up at the Empire Rose and then there’s the Champions Mile at Flemington on the last day." Miller said.
"We’ll just do what’s right for her. We'll wait for her to bounce out of it and is she doesn’t we’ve had a pretty good campaign with two G2 wins.”
Regardless of the outcome, Amelia's Jewel has already secured two G2 wins this campaign.
