Amelia’s Jewel showing significant improvement
interstate campaign remains alive with the gun Perth mare showing significant improvement following her shock defeat at Caulfield on Saturday.
Amelia’s Jewel finished ninth of 16 in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), a run totally out of character and the worst performance of her outstanding career.
There were genuine concerns for Amelia’s Jewel’s short term future and although she was feeling the effects of the run veterinary tests cleared her of injury.
But after a few quiet days recovering at her Flemington base there are encouraging signs that four-year-old has rediscovered her spark.
Trainer Simon Miller said Amelia’s Jewel had taken important steps forward in the past 48 hours.
“She ate up again overnight which is great and if she does the same this morning (Thursday) then she’s back,” Miller told The Races WA.
“She worked yesterday and had a trot and canter today , but she’s bright and her work was strong, very strong.
“She was breathing fire and now I’ll get her through the rest of the week, but we are heading in the right direction.”
Miller said a track gallop next week will determine if Amelia’s Jewel progresses to the $10 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill on November 4.
“I’ll gallop her next Tuesday and see how she comes through that.” Miller said.
“But she’s turned the corner.”
Amelia’s Jewel is currently $5 favourite with betting site bluebet for the Golden Eagle.
