Amber Glide a tonic for Ross Price in Jungle Dawn Classic

In-form mare Amber Glide gets her chance for another feature event when she runs for Bunbury trainer, Ross Price at Ascot on the weekend.

Ross Price is getting a real kick out of Amber Glide, happily acknowledging the four-year-old has been a real surprise packet for his stable.

On a dazzling winning streak, Amber Glide created a big impression last time out when she won the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m).

Claiming her first stakes success and fourth straight victory, Amber Glide charged home powerfully from near last to score by a neck.

The Nicconi daughter goes after five successive wins and the second leg of a feature double in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) on Saturday.

Price said he couldn’t be happier with Amber Glide.

“Winning the Jungle Mist was very, very satisfying,” Price said to The Races WA.

“It took me by surprise a little bit as I thought she was standing them too big a start.

“I won it with her mother and winning again is satisfying.

“And she doesn’t do it the easier way either.

“She’s a horse that gets back, but seems to find the line strongly.

“Once she gets to them she gets to them pretty quick.

“If everything goes ok she’ll have this one and one more.

“I don’t think she’ll have any problem with the mile of a Starstruck.

“She’s had a fairly good campaign, but while she’s up there going good we’ll take it race by race.”

From nine races, Amber Glide’s won six of them and finished second once. Her prizemoney has nudged over $100,000.

She’ll be joined in the Jungle Dawn Classic by stable mate, Fine Touch, the mare resuming after a five week break.

Amber Glide has drawn barrier 10 for Joseph Azzopardi. Fine Touch, to be ridden by Michael Poy, jumps from gate 11.

“It’s always better to draw closer in, but It’s probably going to be harder for the other one,” Price said.

“Fine Touch is a horse that goes forward and she’s had a bit of time off between runs.”

Price said Amber Glide’s performances to date has been a tonic for his stable, with the potential of more to come.

If he projects to 12-months’ time, he’s confident she could be figuring in major races at Ascot’s Pinnacles carnival.

“We had a little bit of a flat spot, but have found a good one now,” Price said.

“It was quiet for a little while, but this gives us a great boost.

“I think she can go to the next level if she keeps sound.

“She could be a carnival horse next year for sure.”

Amber Glide won the Jungle Mist Classic at $19.

She’s currently $6 for the Jungle Dawn, but has eased from her opening quote of $4.

Fine Touch is $21. Duchess Of Gossip holds $2.50 favouritism.

The Listed Starstruck Classic is run at Ascot on December 16.
