Big names chase Debut win with Too Darn Lizzie
Too Darn Hot was again in the Gold Coast Yearling Sale spotlight on Wednesday and this Saturday the filly who had his name up in light this time last year will look to claim some Magic Millions prizemoney.
Too Darn Lizzie will make her anticipated first raceday appearance in the $500,000 Magic Millions The Debut 2YO Fillies Plate (1000m) at the Gold Coast.
The daughter of the Darley shuttle stallion sold for $1 million last year, bought by bloodstock agent Johnny McKeever on behalf of Lord Andrew Lloyd-Weber, the famous composer who raced Too Darn Hot.
Too Darn Lizzie has not quite made it to the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic, but Adrian Bott, who trains the filly in partnership with Gai Waterhouse, is happy that she has got to the feature raceday and is keen to see make an early impression.
"Andrew Lloyd-Weber raced the stallion, so he wanted to support him at his first season down here and Gai has had a connection with him previously," Bott said.
"It's fitting to have that relationship and hopefully we can make an instant impact for them."
Too Darn Lizzie, who is out of Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude winner and Group 1 Blue Diamond runner-up Enbihaar, was the highest-priced product of a first-season stallion at last year's sale and this year he saw his colt out of A Time For Julia sell for $1.9 million on Day 2.
The deeds of the likes of Arabian Summer, a leading contender for Saturday's 2YO Classic, have Too Darn Hot one of the most popular young stallions in the country and Bott said The Debut was a suitable kick-off point for Too Darn Lizzie.
"She was nearly ready for the first official two-year-old trials but she just needed that little bit more time," he said.
"We didn't want to tush her, so we put her away and she's come back a bit more mature filly.
"It's been good to just take our time with her and this has been a nice target to pop up."
Too Darn Hot will start from barrier six in the nine-horse The Debut with Tim Clark to ride.
Clark was also aboard for her slick 4-1/4-length Warwick Farm trial win on December 22, which Bott considered the perfect audition for Saturday's race, for which she is the $2.30 favourite with leading betting sites.
"She trialled up well, I thought she was nice and professional and sharp, and looked like she would be well placed in this race," he said.
