Eneeza set to stamp G1 Blue Diamond Stakes credentials

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable hold Blue Diamond Stakes ambitions for Eneeza, but first there is a lead-up race to be won at Caulfield.

Eneeza makes her return following a let-up in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) on Saturday which will be her sole outing before the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 24.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel had two spring outings, finishing second to Karavas at Flemington on Oaks Day before heading out to Caulfield to win the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) by 2-¼ length on December 2.

Last year’s Blue Diamond winner Little Brose also won the Merson Cooper at his second start before winning Melbourne’s premier juvenile race.

Moody said Eneeza had pleased the stable since her Caulfield victory and is looking to that experience holding her in good stead on Saturday.

But the co-trainer also warned there would be improvement to come from the filly ahead of the Blue Diamond three weeks later.

“She’s had one little jump-out, did everything right, and a couple of gallops subsequent to that,” Moody said.

“She’s really pleased us. She’s a bombproof, push-button two-year-old type.

“She had a bit of a freshen up since she last raced, chipped away down at the beach and punched around down there and it seems to have done her the world of good.

“I wouldn’t say she has grown or strengthened up at all, but she’s probably matured mentally, more than anything.

“I think she can go there and run well on Saturday.

“She’s doesn’t do much wrong, she’s been to Caulfield and had a look there, and I’m expecting her to run well and then improve into the Diamond, all being well.”

Eneeza has only six opponents on Saturday with all, bar Express Yo’self, remaining among the 81 entries still in contention for a Blue Diamond start.
