Redoute’s Choice Stakes outing to shape campaign

The Lindsay Park stable of Ben, Will & J D Hayes will be in a better position to determine the program for Bold Bastille after she runs at Caulfield.

The Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) on Saturday is key in whether the training brothers head to a Stakes race in Sydney or keep her home for a restricted sales event at Bendigo.

On offer for Bold Bastille is the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) and $1 million in prize money at Randwick on April 13 while at Bendigo that day is the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m).

Both races potentially lead to the $1 million VOBIS Showdown (1200m) at Caulfield on April 27.

“She’ll run in the Redoute’s and from there we’ll either go to Sydney and run in the Percy Sykes or there’s a VOBIS race at Bendigo on the same day over 1000 metres,” Ben Hayes said.

“We’ll be making that decision on which way she goes after she performs on Saturday.

“She’s got Black Type and the race at Bendigo is worth $250,000 and then it’s two weeks into The Showdown which is worth $1 million.

“We could go and run in the Percy Sykes and then if we want, we can go to The Showdown as well.”

Bold Bastille has won two of her three starts – both at 1000m – while in between she was sent out a short-priced favourite when sixth in a Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on February 10.

That defeat was first-up when the filly was underdone following a set-back which eventually led to Bold Bastille missing the Blue Diamond Stakes last month for which she had been high up in betting following her impressive debut win at Moonee Valley last October.

Bold Bastille showed blistering speed to win at Flemington on March 2 and Ben Hayes does not see a problem with the filly stepping up to 1100m on Saturday.

“The Redoute’s is 1100 metres, but there’s no 1000-metre races about,” Hayes said.

“But I think she’ll run 1100 no worries. I think the 1100 first-up off the set-back, with only one trial, she just wasn’t ready.

“She’s got the work into her now and I think 1100 and 1200 metres won’t be any problem for her now, but she’s got to show us first.

“She pulled-up great from Flemington and she’s right on track to run on Saturday and we think she should be hard to beat.”
