Martin hopes to revive fond memories in the Batavia Sprint
Julia Martin hopes a dual-pronged attack will be potent enough to score a coveted home-town feature win at Geraldton on Sunday.
Julia Martin will be represented by two runners in the $125,000 Batavia Sprint (1200m), Bombay Style and Miff Muffered Moof.
As an eight year-old with 64 starts behind him, Bombay Style is the veteran of Martin’s pair, while Miff Muffered Moof is the new kid on the block.
A daughter of Vert De Grece, the lightly-raced four-year-old is in her maiden campaign and from five starts she’s been successful on two occasions.
Bombay Style holds a special place in Martin’s heart after winning at Belmont two years ago, the clear stand out moment in her training career.
It was a dream come true for Martin who celebrated her first success in Perth with a horse she outlaid a modest $10,000 for.
Martin’s hoping to climb the mountain again and evoke similar fond memories with Bombay Style in the Batavia Sprint.
The durable Blackfriars gelding is having his 15th start since October, but has struck form at the right time with back-to-back wins.
He’s currently $14 with TABtouch, easing from his opening quote of $11.
Martin says Bombay Style is going well.
“He’s been running pretty good lately,” Martin told The Races WA.
“I know he’s good, but he’s surprised me.
“This prep he’s just been really good and onto it.
“He’s been feeling well and I’m excited for him.
“I’m thrilled to bits with everything he’s done for us since we’ve had him.
“With less weight and a good barrier, I would be disappointed if he wasn’t in the first four.
“I’m going into it thinking he’s good enough.”
In similar vein to her stable mate, Miff Muffered Moof goes into the Batavia Sprint in excellent shape with a winning streak of two straight.
After claiming her maiden, she backed it up a week later when sprouting wings down the outside of the track from a rearwards position.
“She’s a pretty good horse,” Martin said.
“She’s ended up being a good one.
“She’s the new kid on the block.
“It’s hard to separate them, they both are in form at the right time.”
Miff Muffered Moof is one of the outsiders of the field at $26.
While preparations for Martin’s horses has been plain sailing, she hit a roadblock with her jockeys.
Brayden Gaerth had been booked to ride Bombay Style, but suffered rib injuries in a fall at Pinjarra on Thursday.
Jade McNaught the replacement rider.
Keshaw Dhurun was also injured at Pinjarra after an incident in the barriers. Martin searching for a new jockey to partner Miff Muffered Moof.
Bombay Style carries 55.5kg, a drop of 4.5kg and has drawn barrier two.
On the 54kg minimum, Miff Muffered Moof jumps from barrier 11.
Perth sprinter Supersession, a winner of the Fitzpatrick Plate (1230m) and the Mount Barker Sprint (1300m) earlier this campaign, the $3.80 favourite with aussie betting apps.
