Lindsey Smith aims to parlay Warrnambool success

After having a hand in two of the feature flat winners during the Warrnambool May Carnival, Lindsey Smith will be looking to parlay that success at Caulfield.
Smith has three runners at Caulfield on Saturday and is keen on the chances of Mawallock that is the $1.65 betting app favourite in the MRC Plus Handicap (1100m) on Saturday.
Mawallock is the winner of four of her five starts and will be ridden by Tayla Childs, with the apprentice’s 3kg claim in the city bringing the mare’s weight down to 56.5kg.
The now four-year-old will be having her first start in 2024 after a set-back following her victory at Hamilton last October put an end to her campaign.
“She’s been humming along in the trials,” Smith said.
“She’s got good form, and she was unlucky the only time she got beaten.
“She was going for a final of a country race after winning at Hamilton, but pulled a shoe and stood on the nail, which ruined those plans.
“Since then, the owner has passed away, God Bless him, so it would be nice if this horse could win for the family.
“She’s a nice horse and it’s a good opportunity for my apprentice Tayla Childs.
“She’s working very hard and sometimes opportunities arise and that’s what’s she got.”
Smith also has longer priced contestants Hooah Havana engaged in the MRC Chairman’s Club Handicap (1700m) and Mo’s Crown in the BlueBlood Thoroughbreds Handicap (1000m).
The Warrnambool May Carnival was frustrating for Smith with a number of his runners finishing in the placings, however he did come away with the feature sprint on the middle day, the Listed Wangoom Handicap, with Tuvalu being successful.
His assistant trainer Shane Jackson saddled Mystery Island to claim the Listed Warrnambool Cup on the final day.
