Tacumwah to press claims for G1 Queensland Oaks start

The Queensland Oaks remains a possibility for the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained Tacumwah, but first the filly needs to win again at Sandown.
It had been hoped Tacumwah would be flying the flag for Moody and Coleman in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on Saturday, but when she was so far down the entry order it was decided to keep her at home for the Senet Gambling Law Experts Handicap (1600m) instead.
Coleman said if Tacumwah was successful on Saturday there is the possibility she could be flown north to Brisbane for the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 8.
“It is a possibility,” Coleman told RSN.
“It’s a matter of whether she would make it into the field, but a win on Saturday would definitely help her cause.”
Tacumwah has raced only the five times and has registered two wins, her most recent coming at Sandown in benchmark 64 grade over 1800m on May 8.
The filly had to show plenty of grit and determination to score that day.
“I’m looking forward to getting her back to the races again,” Coleman said.
“That last run brought her on nicely and she should take quite a bit of confidence from it having a win like that and she has taken nice improvement out of the run.
“She does come back to the mile after we had been looking at sending her north, but she wasn’t going to get a run up there, so we elected to keep her at home, and it does look a nice race for her.”
Tatum Bull, who scored on Tacumwah at Sandown last start, retains the ride on Saturday with her 3kg claim bringing the filly in with 53kg.
“She is down in the weights and Tatum Bull is on her again and will know her a little bit better after winning on her last start,” Coleman said.
