Two-from-two for Interest Point

The David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins-trained Interest Point has maintained his unbeaten record with a narrow win at Caulfield.

After a debut win at Mornington last month, Interest Point headed to Caulfield to take out the Dexion Victoria Handicap (1100m) on Saturday.

Under the guidance on Jamie Mott, Interest Point ($3.70) had to pull out all stops to hold off a determined $2.70 betting site favourite Blue Renegrade by a short-half-head with Earth God ($5.50) a further four lengths away third.

Jenkins said Interest Point would continue to improve with time and racing.

There had been lofty expectations placed on the progeny of Interest Point’s sire Blue Point earlier in the season, but Jenkins said his intelligence was they would benefit with time.

“The Blue Point’s were hyped up before Christmas, fulfilled that with their trials but didn’t show that on race day,” Jenkins said.

“We’ve got a few European guys that work with us, and they were all adamant they are horses that need time.

“We took baby steps with this horse, and he might even go out now and be better three-year-old.

“David is someone that has not raced too many two-year-olds, but we’re getting them up and rolling in the system earlier now.

“Nothing will be pushed, but if they’re suitable, they will run.”

Interest Point exceeded Jenkins expectations with his easy debut win although Brideoake, who also bred the colt, had liked the horse from his early days.

“David liked this horse before he had run,” Jenkins said.

“Personally, he exceeded my expectations on debut at Mornington with the way he won and to see him do it again today, it was really good.

“He was brave.

“On the corner I thought, not how far, but the way he travelled up, it was quite exciting, but the eventual runner-up gave a great kick and was brave.

“He’s a pretty easy-going colt that is two-from-two now and I’m looking forward to seeing where he can get to now.”
