Michael Lane’s mare too bossy in Jungle Dawn, further riches await

The Boss Lady won’t progress to the Starstruck Classic (1600m) in a fortnight, but her Ascot Pinnacles campaign is not done with just yet.

Trainer Michael Lane has some thinking to do, but gave a hint of what may be on offer after the quality mare gave another reminder of her talent with victory in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m).

A home bred and a horse close to his heart, Lane’s big opinion of The Boss Lady could be further tested in a rich money race in a couple of weeks’ time.

“I think it’s as far as she wants to go,” Lane said, referring to The Boss Lady stepping up to a mile in the Starstruck Classic.

“We’ll look for another option.

“She is nominated for The Gold Rush (1400m), but let the dust settle and see what happens.

“She’s a super mare for us and it’s a great result for the stable.

“It’s a special effort.”

The Boss Lady returned $4.50 and $1.70 on tote and exacted revenge on favourite Baby Paris after running second to the mare in the Jungle Mist Classic (1200m).

Baby Paris tried to replicate what she did in the Jungle Mist Classic by leading all the way, but was under pressure from the 100m mark and faded to seventh.

With jockey Chris Parnham timing his run perfectly, The Boss Lady charged home from seventh position and outpointed Antique Miss by a long neck.

Bonjoy ran a slashing third after being last at the turn.

The Boss Lady gave Parnham a double after Generosity upset hot shot Jokers Grin earlier.

Lane had nothing but praise for his stable rider.

“A great ride today as per usual,” Lane said.

“Chris gives us great feedback all the time.

“Jockeys like Chris are invaluable to us.

“He does a lot of work behind the scenes as well.”

Making it a big race for Lane, stable mate Rusty Dreams ran fourth to her stablemate.

Lane said the Starstruck is her next challenge.

The $1.5 million Group 3 Gold Rush is held at Ascot on December 14.
