Snowden mare poised to Bloom over summer
Stakes placegetter August Bloom is set to make a low key return in a benchmark race at Rosehill as trainer Peter Snowden looks to get her racing career back on track.
Placed in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at two, August Bloom battled muscle issues during her three-year-old season, restricting her to just four starts.
Her only appearance during the autumn yielded a fifth behind Facile in the P J Bell Stakes (1200m) at Randwick when she was doing her best work late and Snowden is hoping she can get back to a similar level.
“I’d certainly like to think so,” Snowden said.
“She has always had good ability so I’d like to see her realise that now that she is a bit older and hopefully that can happen.
“She had a couple of setbacks, but she is back on track now.”
A daughter of More Than Ready, August Bloom has been readied for her return with two barrier trials and looked sharp winning her most recent 1045m heat at Randwick.
Her sole win in seven starts came first-up at Hawkesbury last year and Snowden expects her to be forward enough to make her presence felt in Saturday’s Captivant @ Kia Ora Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill.
“Two good trials have got her ready to go,” he said.
This weekend’s meeting will be the first Sydney Saturday fixture in several months not headlined by a feature race with 10 benchmark events programmed, including the Petaluma Handicap (1200m) featuring a clash between unbeaten three-year-olds Private Harry and Theblade.
