Important outing for Hearcomesthestar in the Bellmaine Stakes

Hearcomesthestar will be racing for more than just prize money when she steps out in a Stakes race at Sandown this Saturday. While finishing in the top three of the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) would be a bonus for connections, securing ‘Black Type’ is the primary goal.
Trainer John Moloney is taking a calculated risk with the mare, hoping her fitness edge will give her an advantage in the race. “For a Zoustar mare to earn ‘Black Type’ would be pretty special,” Moloney said. “She’s in good shape, so we’re taking a chance early in the autumn before the stronger horses hit their stride. If she can finish well, it’ll be a big win for us.”
Moloney revealed that connections had considered traveling to Tasmania for the Group 3 Mystic Journey Stakes (1200m) on February 7. However, the logistical challenges of the trip led them to pursue ‘Black Type’ closer to home instead. “It’s a long journey to Hobart, so we decided to take our chances here,” Moloney explained. “Hopefully, it’s easier to compete in our own backyard than making the trip down there.”
While Hearcomesthestar has yet to race on the Sandown Lakeside track, she is familiar with Sandown, having won her debut on the Hillside course in May 2023. “She came from behind to win that day, but in her last campaign, she got stuck on the rail on a wet track and had no luck,” Moloney recalled. “This time, she’s drawn wide, so we’ll likely settle back and aim to finish strong.”
With four wins from 16 starts and over $210,000 in prize money, Hearcomesthestar has already proven her ability. However, adding ‘Black Type’ to her pedigree would significantly enhance her value as a broodmare, making Saturday’s race a crucial opportunity for her future.
