Warren, Rosemont sweat with G1 Blue Diamond’s youngest

Rosemont Stud and Jason Warren have both ends of the age spectrum covered in this year’s Blue Diamond Stakes, fielding both the oldest and youngest two-year-olds in the race.

Eden Rose, foaled on August 7, 2022, is the earliest-born entrant, while stablemate Palm Angel, born 67 days later, is the youngest.

For Warren, who runs a small 30-horse stable, securing two Blue Diamond starters is a major accomplishment.

“We’ve only had three two-year-old runners this season, and two of them are in the Blue Diamond,” Warren said. “It’s a great achievement for our team. We’re also looking to settle unfinished business after Brooklyn Hustle’s unlucky run in the race.”

Brooklyn Hustle, a strong contender in 2019, was hampered mid-race and finished fifth.

Palm Angel’s participation remains uncertain after Racing Victoria vets expressed concerns over a change in her gait. She will undergo a final inspection on Saturday morning.

Field Of Play and Cherish Me have been cleared to race following rechecks, while Icarian Dream has been scratched.

If Palm Angel takes her place and claims victory, she will become the fifth-youngest Blue Diamond winner since 1978, adding another chapter to the race’s storied history.
