Jimmy stars in the Oakleigh Plate

Jimmysstar delivered on his undeniable promise with a magnificent maiden Group One victory in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Ridden by Ethan Brown, the $7.50 chance showed remarkable speed and determination, accelerating past the $5.50 favorite She’s Bulletproof at the 200m mark and holding off Rey Magnerio ($8) to win by 1¼ lengths.
This triumph, his biggest yet, followed a strong performance in the Listed Weekend Hussler (1400m). Trainer Ciaron Maher had long believed in Jimmysstar’s Group One potential, regardless of distance.
“He’s a special horse. I think Ozzie (Kheir) thought I was a bit crazy when I first ran him over 1100m, but he’s always had that bit of X-factor,” Maher explained.
“I’m grateful to Ozzie, John, and the entire ownership group—they’ve been fantastic to train for, and Ozzie always seems to find the best horses.”
Jimmysstar, a horse with an ever-growing fanbase, lived up to his potential with this spectacular win, validating the patience shown by his connections.
“He’s always had that ability, and it was great to see him show it today,” Maher added.
Ethan Brown, who claimed his seventh Group One win, was left in awe of the performance.
“I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a horse that went as quick as he did,” Brown said.
“I’d love to see the sectionals, because he flew home. What a training effort to have a 1400m horse fresh up in an Oakleigh Plate and run like that.”
Brown has enjoyed great success with Maher, having won six of his seven Group One races under his guidance.
“Ciaron has been incredibly supportive of me, and this win is so special,” Brown reflected.
“I remember when I took a break from riding, and he sat me down and said, ‘You’ve got something, and I’ll back you.’ This has been a special journey with him.”
