Vinrock displays class in VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes success
Trainer Matt Laurie is now setting his sights on Sydney after Vinrock delivered a dominant performance in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington.
Building on his maiden victory at Pakenham on February 20, the talented colt dictated the pace from the outset, leading all the way in the 1400m feature. Sent out as the $3.40 favourite, Vinrock surged clear to win by two lengths, with Brave Design ($7) securing second place and Onavuitton ($19) finishing third.
Despite not holding an entry for the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Vinrock will now be aimed at the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick on April 5, followed by the prestigious Group 1 Champagne Stakes.
Laurie, who had high hopes for Vinrock from the beginning, believes the extra distance will suit him perfectly. “He’s a very tough horse and when he was placed under pressure, he really responded well,” the trainer said.
Jockey Mark Zahra credited Laurie’s strategic planning, remarking, “Matt has plotted a path, and it has come off.”
