Tom Kitten rules in the G1 All-Star Mile

Godolphin’s Tom Kitten has finally delivered on his immense promise, claiming victory in the Group 1 All-Star Mile at Flemington.

A standout as a juvenile, Tom Kitten secured wins in the Listed Fernhill Stakes and the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes as a three-year-old. However, after enduring a winless autumn campaign, the decision was made to geld him.

Following a solid return to racing last spring, the talented galloper finally broke through for his first victory since, producing a gutsy performance on Saturday. With Ben Melham in the saddle, Tom Kitten ($4.60) edged out race favourite Mr Brightside ($2.70) by a short-half-head, while Light Infantry Man ($26) finished third.

Trainer James Cummings had signaled confidence in the horse’s preparation, and Melham’s ride confirmed the gelding’s resurgence following an unlucky run in the Futurity Stakes.

“We knew he was in for a good prep, and he sure has,” said Godolphin’s Nacim Dilmi, as attention now turns to the upcoming Australian Cup at Flemington.
