Charlotte Littlefield takes aim at the VOBIS Gold Distaff

Regal Vow will always be a standout horse for Charlotte Littlefield, having provided the Pakenham-based trainer with her first ‘Black Type’ victory.
Her success in the Listed Lord Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield Heath on Boxing Day last year was a career highlight for Littlefield until She’s Bulletproof surpassed it with a win in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes at Sandown the following month.
Regal Vow has not raced since her Lord Stakes victory but is set to return in the VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Littlefield gave the mare a solid gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, following a single jump-out at Pakenham last Tuesday, to fine-tune her preparation.
“She’s freshened up nicely since the win,” Littlefield said.
“We brought her here today because she’s only had one jump-out, and I wanted her to do a little extra work. At home, she doesn’t put in as much effort or get a proper blowout.
“This was a great chance to sharpen her up ahead of Saturday.”
Regal Vow has had three previous runs at Caulfield, claiming a win and a second-place finish, in addition to her Lord Stakes victory at Caulfield Heath.
Her only unplaced finish at the venue was on a heavy track in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes before bouncing back in the Lord Stakes.
“She likes this track, and having Craig Williams on again is a huge plus,” Littlefield said.
“He wasn’t able to be here this morning because he was jumping out She’s Bulletproof at Pakenham, so the track riders, including myself, did the work.
“The track had some give in it this morning, and as long as it’s not too firm on race day, I think she’ll perform well.
“She’s had a break between runs, and she’s usually very sharp when fresh.”
Littlefield also provided an update on She’s Bulletproof, who had an easy jump-out at Pakenham in preparation for the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley next Saturday.
Following her Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes win, She’s Bulletproof finished second to Jimmysstar in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.
“She just had a soft gallop this morning, mainly a stretch of the legs, and at this stage, the William Reid is the plan,” Littlefield said.
