Stokes stable sets sights on blacktype in Clare Lindop Stakes

Posted by RS NewsWire at 3:08pm on March 28th

The Phillip Stokes stable is chasing some blacktype for a couple of fillies in the Clare Lindop Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville this Saturday.

Stokes saddles up Comanche Miss and Pelevecchio as the pair try and achieve ‘Black Type’ status before there is an influx of fillies for the bigger races in coming weeks.

Comanche Miss is on a path towards the Australasian Oaks (2000m) and is potentially going to follow the traditional path via the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 12.

Stokes said Comanche Miss had been prepared for Saturday’s assault from his Victorian stable at Pakenham.

Comanche Miss is yet to win seven starts but has a ‘Black Type’ placing to her credit.

“She’s Stakes placed but hasn’t won a race though,” Stokes said.

“I stayed at home at Pakenham last week trying to win a 1400-metre maiden. She jumped to the front and got nailed late, so hopefully her first win will be as a Stakes winner.

“She gives us all the indications that she will be a 2000-metre horse.”

While Comanche Miss is yet to have posted a win, Pelevecchio, who has raced predominantly in Adelaide throughout her six-start career, scored her maiden win on the Parks track at Morphettville in December.

Placings followed at Murray Bridge and Morphettville before Pelevecchio finished fifth in the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) on Adelaide Cup Day, won by stablemate Gala Queen.

“Her last run was good. She ran fifth behind Gala Queen and she was the only other filly in that race,” Stokes said.

“She’s got a good pedigree. She’s related to Miss Finland, so I’m trying to chase some ‘Black Type’, but this will probably be her final run before a break as I’m just not sure about her beyond a mile.

“I think Comanche Miss is going a bit better, but they’re both in good order.”
