Spring Racing Carnival ambitions for unbeaten Scenic Point

Scenic Point remains unbeaten after securing another convincing win, this time at Caulfield, adding to the excitement within the Lindsay Park stable of Ben, Will, and J D Hayes as they prepare for a big spring campaign.
After a strong first-up performance at Pakenham, the promising filly stepped up to stakes grade and delivered in the Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) on Saturday, living up to her short quote as favourite.
With only four rivals, Scenic Point sat last under Daniel Stackhouse before cruising past them in the straight to win with authority by a length.
There was drama post-race as Jye McNeil, aboard third-placegetter Aleppo Pine ($3.90), lodged a protest against Mednyi ($15), who crossed the line in second. Stewards upheld the protest following a brief review.
Will Hayes spoke of how Scenic Point is still learning and showed more spark this time around.
“She got a little bit hot in the pre-parade which was a little bit different to Pakenham,” Hayes said.
“She’s certainly waking up and is on a big learning curve. I felt today, what she did, was on raw ability and there’s plenty of upside.”
The team will meet on Monday to consider her next move, with both immediate and longer-term targets in mind.
While the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper were off the table earlier in her career, her connections now have more options to explore.
“We’ll be guided by how she pulls up, but the way she won today you wouldn’t hesitate to go to Sydney, but you also wouldn’t hesitate to put her in the paddock and protect her for the spring,” Hayes said.
“I think she’s a Thousand Guineas type.
“She’s one of those hamburgers with the lot at this stage. She’s shown she can sprint, and she might get out to a middle distance as well.
“She’s got a big frame. She screams three-year-old type and what she has done now is an absolute bonus.
“It’s all based on potential, but what we see is a very talented galloper.”
