Jimmystar poised to star in the All Aged Stakes 2025

The final Group 1 of the Sydney autumn carnival looms large for Jimmystar, who aims to add another major win to his name in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

The explosive-finishing gelding made headlines with his victory in the Oakleigh Plate earlier this prep and looks well-suited to the 1400m assignment—provided there’s enough tempo to suit his racing style.

Ciaron Maher’s assistant trainer, Johann Gerard-Dubord, says a fast-run race is key to unlocking Jimmystar’s best form.

“Because of the way he races, he wants tempo,” Gerard-Dubord said.

“He doesn’t need cover, he does relax well, but because of where he ends up in his races he needs tempo.”

Jimmystar’s autumn campaign has been strong, with a standout win in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m), a placing in the William Reid Stakes (1200m), and a bold last-to-fourth effort in the T J Smith Stakes (1200m).

His ability to close from the rear was on full display in the T J Smith, where most leaders held on while Jimmystar stormed home late to clock some of the race’s best sectionals.

“He was very good last start to do what he did from where he was, and his sectionals showed that,” Gerard-Dubord said.

“The 1400 will be no issue. He has come through the run very well.

“With that turn of foot over 1400, if he’s not too far off them at the top of the straight he will be right there.”

He’ll face tough opposition again, including T J Smith Stakes winner Briasa from barrier four and Magic Time, last year’s All Aged winner, from gate seven. Jimmystar has drawn barrier six and will once again be ridden by regular partner Ethan Brown.
