Switzerland retired to Coolmore, intro fee announced

Switzerland’s racing days are over, with Coolmore confirming the three-year-old’s retirement following his final run in the T J Smith Stakes earlier this month.

The son of Snitzel will begin his stallion duties later this year at Coolmore’s Jerrys Plains base, standing for an opening fee of $60,500 (GST inclusive).

Tom Magnier shared his excitement about adding the colt to the prestigious Coolmore roster.

“Switzerland is a horse that we have been looking forward to standing at Coolmore for a long time,” Magnier said.

“He was always the head of his class from when he was broken-in at the farm to when he first arrived in Chris Waller’s stable.

“He was a top-class two-year-old, the fastest ever winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes and the highest-rated spring three-year-old ever by the great Snitzel.

“Physically, he is a stunning horse who we believe will be extremely easy for breeders to mate to, with a high-class American speed pedigree that lends itself to much of the Australian broodmare population.

“He is a very exciting addition to our roster and we will be supporting him with quality mares from the start.”

Switzerland will join Golden Slipper hero Shinzo and Slipper runner-up Best Of Bordeaux as part of Coolmore’s Snitzel-sired stallion trio.

The $1.5 million Inglis Easter yearling retires with five wins from 10 starts, most notably in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes. He also claimed the Group 2 Todman Stakes and Roman Consul Stakes before sealing his G1 credentials.
