Waller keeping faith in Joliestar in 2025 All Aged Stakes
Trainer Chris Waller isn’t overly concerned with Joliestar’s recent defeat in the T J Smith Stakes, believing she’s well placed to bounce back in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Despite finishing ninth, Waller pointed out that circumstances in the race worked against her, with Damian Lane having to navigate through slower ground on the inside rail.
“Damian had nowhere to go and he had to go up the fence,” Waller said.
“There was no pressure in the race. He couldn’t push out. He had to go where no other horse had been on the day and it was slower there.”
Joliestar was previously dominant in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and has enjoyed success at Randwick with two of her five career wins at the course.
With Lane suspended, Zac Lloyd will take over riding duties and is expected to give her a more favorable run from a midfield gate.
“Barrier nine probably suits her, we won’t get the same excuse,” Waller said.
“I think 1400 metres is probably the right distance for her too.
“I’m not panicked. She is good enough to win. She just needs a little bit of luck on race day.”
Also representing the stable is Osipenko, who resumes after a win in the January Cup and is being prepared for the Hollindale Stakes later in the carnival.
“He’s a neat old horse. He is getting ready for the Hollindale (Stakes).”
