Spring Racing campaign awaits Prestige Snitzel

Prestige Snitzel confirmed her class at Mornington on Saturday with a commanding win in the Mornington Sires (1200m), and trainers David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins now have their sights set on the spring.
Already a Group 3 placegetter after finishing runner-up in the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m), Prestige Snitzel was sent out the $3.10 favourite and didn’t disappoint, claiming her maiden victory with a 2¼-length romp over Toronado Queen ($4). Casual Ghai ($6.50) was a further 1½ lengths behind in third.
“I think she will be a filly that will stay, and could get out to a mile in the spring,” Brideoake said post-race. “She can have a rest now and see what the spring brings.”
The two-year-old filly becomes the third juvenile with the 'Prestige' prefix to salute for the stable in the past month, a sign of the stable’s strength in the age group.
“We’ve got a good team, and we’ve got some pretty good stock at the moment,” Brideoake added. “It all adds up and the rewards are good.”
Brideoake also acknowledged Jamie Mott’s tactical ride after jumping from a wide barrier.
“I liked the ride. After they had gone probably 300 metres, Jamie was positioned up pretty damn well,” he said. “She was race savvy and race hardened, so she had the advantage.”
Speaking after the race, Mott said the filly was still green but was improving with experience.
“Even though she was a bit more switched on today, she was shying at everything going to the barrier and after the race,” Mott said. “She’s still got a bit of a baby brain, but she gives you a great feel and hopefully she can stretch out in distance and if she can, she will be a serious horse.”
