David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins will be out to extend their hot streak with a trio of horses carrying the “Prestige” name, as Prestige Ole takes his place in Friday’s Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
The stable has enjoyed a successful five-week stretch with Prestige Ole, Prestige Forever, and Prestige Snitzel all saluting in city-class races, and now they’re hoping Prestige Ole can secure a valuable black-type win.
The promising colt recorded his first career victory at Ballarat on March 7 before stepping up in distance and scoring again at Flemington on March 29, where he showed his tenacity over 1400m.
Despite the four-week gap since his last start, Brideoake is confident Prestige Ole has made further progress leading into Friday’s assignment.
“He worked on Saturday morning over 1000 metres on the course proper and I think he’s continued to progress,” Brideoake said.
“His recovery was fabulous, and my feeling is pretty good with him, I think we’ll go okay.
“He’s only got to make a little step to be pretty competitive.
“I love horses that keep improving, bit by bit, and he’s one of those.”
Plans are already in motion for the spring, with Prestige Forever and Prestige Snitzel both earmarked for upcoming campaigns. The hope is that Prestige Ole will earn a place among them with a strong performance this weekend.
Prestige Forever recently contested the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick and is now spelling, while Prestige Snitzel is also out for a break after winning at Mornington.
Brideoake believes there is plenty of upside with Prestige Ole, especially as he matures and builds strength.
“He’ll get a mile in the spring and he’s just getting bigger and stronger,” Brideoake said.
“He’s actually thrived with the training.
“At one stage I thought he might have to go out for a spell, but he’s gone the other way.
“I’ve stepped it up and he’s come up to match it.”
Ben Allen, who guided Prestige Ole to victory at Flemington last time out, will again take the reins on Friday.
